Title of Artwork: A Room with a View

ARTIST STATEMENT: The assignment was to draw any room and I decided to use my room since it is the place where I love to spend my time. The steps taken to complete this project started with using a photo of my room in a one point perspective view. I also used the floor plan to help measure and know where the objects are in the drawing. The photo was printed with color. The next step would be to outline the details in tracing paper with the granite pencil. Then I traced the lines in the micro pen very carefully so that I wouldn’t mess up.The last step would be me drawing the contour lines in different parts of the bed and furniture. The process that we used to do was inking.

(MP2) Project #3_ Thematic House Design_ Final Draft (Nov 11, 2024 at 9_06 PM)(1).jpg

Title of Artwork: Thematic House Design

ARTIST STATEMENT: The assignment was to design a Thematic House. My concept behind my thematic house design was Horror Themed. I chose it because horror is my favorite genre so I decided to draw a haunted house from a two point perspective as well as the hill from the film “The Nightmare Before Christmas”, a half moon, a graveyard and bats. I sketch  the house with the architectural style of Queen Anne and I used cross gables, asymmetric facade and irregular roof.

Title of Artwork: Still Life

ARTIST STATEMENT: The assignment was to draw a “Still Life” with the perspective of where you were sitting in class.I took a picture and  used a 3x3 grid of the picture to help me find the dimensions of the objects while I was sketching. In order to get the value mapping of the image ,  I had to reflect the highlight, form light, Half-tone core shadow, reflect light and the cast shadow. I took the picture and changed it on my phone to grayscale to help me see the lighting more clearly. I added the contour lines, made  a contour map and rendered the form. I did the contour lines so that it would be easier for me to understand where the shading goes.

Title of Artwork: Empathy

ARTIST STATEMENT: The assignment was to sketch about empathy. I will be creating a relaxing scene with cherry trees in the background, as well as creating two people with one in a black dress and one in a pink dress matching the scenery. Empathy is a part of this project because of the scenery that resonates with human experiences and emotions in their representations of transience, beauty and cyclical nature of life. The emotions of sadness and joy are evoked that reflect on the balance between life and death. In addition, cherry blossoms are known to be associated with the beauty of life in Japanese Culture. The symbolization for this project would be about enjoying and appreciating the present life and being alive, because one day , it will all come to an end.

How  Catalina got her powers.

After walking for 30 minutes in the middle of the forest, she felt like she was lost and started to panic. Looking east and then west and seeing huge big green trees and dark green mountains, she turned to the south side and she saw the biggest pyramid she had ever seen. Her instinct as an explorer was to go into the pyramid but she felt scared. She didn’t know what was hiding inside this pyramid or if someone or something was protecting the pyramid from the world. She took a deep breath and started to walk inside the pyramid not knowing if she would come back. Once inside, she felt like someone was spying on her, she started to increase her pace and started to explore the pyramid. After walking around for hours, she went into one of the chambers and  started to explore the dark interior of the pyramid. But suddenly, she felt tired and took a rest as she was without a breath. It took her 5 minutes to start breathing and get back to normal. Without looking at her surroundings , she accidently touched  a statue which contained the most beautiful green emerald as eyes. The emeralds started to glow , as if they were lasers about to fire, thankfully nothing happened. Suddenly, Catalina started feeling weird inside and a bit light headed, as if touching that statue meant a curse had befallen upon her. At this point, she realized that the statue she touched  was no ordinary statue, but a statue that had hidden powers inside it. She could not fathom the idea of having obtained superpowers from the statue as she thought that they only existed in TV Shows and Movies. But suddenly, she noticed sudden changes within her.

Title of Artwork: Cut-Paper Illustration

ARTIST STATEMENT: The assignment was to take your Character Profile page and create a cut-paper illustration.  I drew  my own character that I made from my character profile, Catalina Perez . Then I used other paper to make different parts of the scenery , such as the Inca pyramid , trees, and the golden statue with emerald eyes  to match it with the story.  Then I traced the sketches with marker , colored them , and cut them using the blade. I used some  type of foam for the background and colored it blue. I glued and pasted all of the sketches I cut out into the foam. When I first did this project, the artwork didn’t look good because the character way bigger than the trees and the pose didn’t look the same from the concept sketch. But after doing a second attempt , the diorama finally was connected to my story hook , as well as the story in general.
